Hey, Scottydog, welcome to our little corner of the world!

GSA is the General Services Agency, the government agency responsible for managing procurement and government facilities. Numismatically, it describes the Morgan Dollars that were found in storage during the 1960s that were minted in Carson City, NV. After the GSA removed them from the various storage facilities, including the old Carson City Mint buidling and under the Treasury Building in Washington, DC, the GSA encased them in special holders and sold them to the public.

NGC will grade these Morgan Dollars in the GSA encasements so that the collector can maintain the case while knowing the state of preservation (grade). They are commonly referred to as GSA Morgans.

Edited to add the following image of an example GSA Morgan Dollar from an article at coinresource.com:

I hope that helps!

Next question...how long after a submission is "received" before it is "scheduled for grading." Mine have been in a received status for almost a week.

Steve

That depends on the tier you submitted under and NGC’s current posted turn around schedule.
