Carbon spots and conservation

4 posts in this topic

I recently opened a roll of pennies I have had since 1974. I was hoping for a flawless set of 50, when in fact many of the coins had developed carbon spots on the surfaces. Tiny, but present. Can NCS remove these spots through conservation methods? Please advise (and apologies if this is a redundant topic.) Thank you.

I found this link. It may or not help. I just sent a few coins in for various reasons. I've got about 20 more to send. A few of these are because of spots. I'll report back the results. I'm sure that will be about a month or so from now.

Thanks, Bob. I was going to do the same just to see if they could be treated. If they can successfully remove the spots (and they are pinhead size) I will be very happy, because there are very few flaws in these other than the carbon. Many could be in the MS-66R grade.

I have heard some success stories, but only anecdotal. Best bet is to probably send a few in.

Thank you.
