Here is a nicely toned Great Britain 1887 Double Florin (4 shillings), Arabic 1 variety, MS 62.

Wonderful DuoDekaGroat !

I've always loved that type. As a lad I posted signs around Philly to buy old coins and would then bicycle out to whoever called (too young for a car). I got one of those but not in that condition.

With a coin that pretty I don't understand why one needs to go any higher.

Today I mainly can only afford Latin American coins + a few ancients.

Uncleaned - Caligula & Augustus AR Denarius, 20mm, 2.83gr circa 10 AD Grade: EF+(?)

Wow, he really was prescient! Caligula became Emperor in AD 37 but by year 10 Augustus already knew what he'd look like?

This coin shows up in my book as R.I.C. 10, possibly that's what you meant? Still a really nice coin compared to my collection of worthless and rapidly devaluating bronzes.

Picked these up in a inc postage Which tbh is ridiculous. lot hammer = £47 +£12 premiums +£33 postage and that was in my own country lol. Lot £47+charges £55 = £102. Why am I so so unlucky. Prob the only person who's coin lot came with a aluminum brief case. Would of been a bargain. Still managed to get a little from it. But the way they charge for everything these days. Makes you wonder how anyone makes a living. Here are a couple of the coins The $10 Olympics there are 2 and a cook Island $5 but with a reeded edge whichisn't listed..... Only found info on the inscribed edge . All in silver.

the first is a 1806 Proof PCGS PR64BN. I have 1806-1807 Penny, Half Penny and farthing set I just started so it only made sense

The second is a 1626 Bavarian Thaler I truly love the Madonna with child art in paintings and coins.

That gold has some nice color. Seems some folks don't like toned gold. I do.

Here are a couple of GB coins that came in today.

Great Britain 1247-72 -- King Henry III 1D - PCGS AU55

I probably need to work on my lighting a bit. Although I think the 1247 1D image that I took has greater eye appeal than the TrueView outside the slab.

Bill, those are both great coins, but that 6D is a show-stopper! Also, fantastic images -- congrats! (thumbs u

Thanks Brandon - I think the 6D is pretty sharp but actually the 1D means more to me for two reasons:

  • It is the first hammered coin I have ever purchased
  • And most important - It was hammered in Oxford, England which also happens to be where my Mother was born and raised.

I wish she was still with us. She was the only one in my family that really was a collector. She use to bring out my Great Grandfathers silver dollar (I just can't remember what type it was) and his gold pocket watch every now and then. I seemed to be the only one (siblings) that was always most enamored by them. I would sit and look a those two items for as long as she would let me.

She always said that when she passed on she would hand those down to me. Never happened. I don't know who raided what but all I ever kept to remember her by was an old english tin that was used to hold mints, and a third of her ashes. She would really have enjoyed all the coins, watches, and history. I have a silver dollar perched next to her earn and beside her picture.

Maybe I will perch this 1D next to her picture instead. :)

Oh and btw; I did not take those photos. I have only now got my hands on it to take photos and I think they used a lighting technique that I am not capable of or juiced them. Not sure. They have color though and the 1247 1D is actually looking better in my photos which I will replace in a few days. ;)

A fantasy 1910-dated crown struck in 2000 and featuring the St. George pattern design of AG Wyon on the reverse. The obverse portrait is by Donald Golder. These Retrospective-Pattern (fantasy) pieces from the early 2000s are very well done...and increasingly difficult to find. This one is done in 0.925 silver, with the London Assay Office hallmark on the edge.

Just won this one at auction. It's an old Polish thaler but only a lowly NGC 25 grade. Still I think it's quite sharp for a VF-25 ? I really don't know as I'm not a specialist in Polish coinage: just that I'm half Polish. Incidentally this is the 2nd one of this type I've gotten. My current one is even more worn so the new one is an improvement.

It quite rare for me to get duplicates but it does happen if I see a neat type in better grade. Maybe I can give my old one to some of my Polish relatives?
