New Camera and New Coin

7 posts in this topic

Attached is a picture of a 1908D Barber dime which I purchased 3 weeks ago. The camera is an Olympus C-5050, which is a 5 megapixel beauty. The image is large to show the coin detail but also to show you what the macro capability on this camera is. I downsized the picture but it is still large. 1908D

Mike,

Looks like your new camera does a great job. You were able to get that photo with the lens that came on the camera? I have a Kodak DC4800 3.1 megapixel camera and to get a close up like that I need to use an additional 7x or 10x lens that attaches to the lens on the camera like a lens filter.

I don't think I would kill to be able to take pictures like your picture, but I probably would maim a lot! What an outstanding picture. Too bad the coin is butt ugly... ( smile.gif!!!)

More seriously, did you need to buy anything (eg, another lens or flash) beyond the initial camera?

Camera is right out of the box, no macro lenses or any other enhancements or additions.. I need to fuss with the settings to bring out the red, gold and green in this coin. Not as dark as it appears and looks cameo.

The only attachment I purchase was an AC adapter, it eats the batteries alive. This was absolutely the first picture I took with this camera. Big improvement over my Nikon 885 coolpix.

Edited to add the flash is disabled in macro, I have a light set up attached to the desk.

I just reread my post and I want to be sure that you understood my ":)" because upon rereading the post, the post seemed a bit unclear. My true opinion of the coin is that it's very nice; that's a coin that I believe has never been "messed with" at any point in its life. So, it's an extremely nice catch. And your photograph of it is top notch!
