MINUS THE FINGER PRINT HOW DOES IT SCORE?

22 posts in this topic

funny you should ask as this coin the bicent. half in 5 to 15% off center is one of my ultra super specialities

these coins are in good demand and for me retail for this specific coin is like around an 90 dollar coin retail to the right person

now

with this market combined with new collectors with available money burning a whole in their pocket with visions of investment sugarplums dancing in their heads combined with their limited experience

you never know

I think it is worth every bit you paid and thensome (due to being a 1976). It's off-center, but I've seen some call this a broadstrike.

Nice catch and that fingerprint should currate right off.

Pat,

I will not be plating this coin that is for sure. I did find out when cladded coins are gold plated they silver plate them first. I guess the gold adhears to the silver better than the copper nickel alloy and silver adhears to the copper nickel alloy better than gold. I don't see how this coin can be called a broadstrike. Are you selling any more coins on ebay? What chemicals do they use when curating coins?

1) You learned that lesson removing the gold plating from that SBA. Most go their whole lives unaware.

2) No. I have no auctions currently running.

3) NCS is guarded when it comes to releasing their methods, including the chemicals they use. They've sworn me to secrecy (well they would, I'm sure, if they told me first).

4) Oh, there wasn't a fourth point. Nevermind.

I have a PCGS MS64 Buffalo nickel that is similarly off-center and is labeled as broadstruck on the PCGS insert.

intereswting yes now that i think about it this coin is not off center at all

it is broadstruck!!!!!!!

in other worss the planchet was correctly in the collar but the dies were off!! because you can still see all of the design elements yet is is really off centered so to speak so the planchet was totally in the collar as if the planchet was not all the way in the collar you would see lots less of the design

so yes this coin is broadstruck!!

i neat broadstrike to boot

since the coin is centered and all there the dies moved hence a broadstrike if the coin was not all then off center as you can see the coin the whole design is there so again broadstrike

the bicent coins are under tremendo=ue pressure from type coin error c9ollectors as a one year type

a neat coin

Just remember I said it was broadstruck (probably. What do I know?) first. crazy.gif

I don't think it is both. Could it be? I don't know, but I don't think so. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

but after all is said and done still an original coin never messed with or cleaned and a spectular bicentennial half error that anynoe can see it is dramatic and different

this coin would be worth submitting to ngc/pcgs for slabbing

as i think in auction with the right marketing to make people aware of its being sold as such

this coin would have huge demand and bring a price that would surprise me!]

a really neat coin

NGC would be your best bet. There's no need sending it PCG$, the thing already has enough fingerprints on it. 27_laughing.gif

Now that is pretty darn funny in a tragic sense.

I honestly think it would. It would bring out the luster and get rid of the print. The coin has a cool factor of "10", why distract all it has going for it with haze and a print?

Would the value increase if I had it cleaned by the experts????

Should I have it cleaned????

Here's my advice and don't take my word on it. It depends on the toning. Does it look nice or is it mucky looking. The experts may be able to do something with whatever is on the neck and what's up by the T but the reverse is a different story because there is no toning under the print and there appears to be another print in States. If you decide to dip it then there's the very noticable scratch up behind the ear. Usually a decision like this takes me months to decide, to be certain with the results. I've never have sent anything to NCS but they should be able to give the best advice upon seeing the coin.
