Grade That Capped Bust Half!

This is a very cool coin(thumbs up with the obverse doubling of Liberty's chin. yay.gif The surfaces are original (Would we expect anything less from Tom B?) and the coin has lots of character which I love.cloud9.gifcloud9.gifcloud9.gif My grade on it would be VF35 maybe higher depending on underlying luster that is visible. Great addition to your collection Chad 893applaud-thumb.gif893applaud-thumb.gif893applaud-thumb.gif

Is than an overdate variety? Do you know what Overton number?

I don't know if it's an overdate, don't think so. I'm thinking VF35 also, maybe VF30. It's got nice hints of rainbow to it under light. It is a very very nice coin.

First, this is a very nice coin. I don't know where TomB finds 'em, but this is a hard find like this. I think, at least.

As far as what it should grade, I will admit my frailties in this arena, but I suspect technically it should grade no less than a VF35. It has incredible eye appeal as well, which makes me wonder if this would take it up a notch in the grading scale.

edited to add: no, the double chin doesn't make for a variety.

It it were an overdate, I would have let Chad know already. wink.gif The double profile is an artifact of the minting process that is seen on a small percentage of CBHs. Fortunately for this coin, the double profile is readily seen with the naked eye, which is unusual as these are normally shifted much less. Certain years can be found with this feature much more easily than others and the years 1823-1826 are the most "common", though "common" is quite relative in this sense. The coin has an Overton variety number of O.111, which is an R2.

As Tom said the double chin this clearly visible with the naked eye is more unusual. It adds to the character of the coin. thumbsup2.gif

Any rainbow toning would be a plus. What colors are included it? Hard to tell from the pictures.

It's always tough to grade coins like this. It has a VF obverse and an EF reverse. I'll guess VF-25. It appears to have wonderful originality though, and is worthy of a premium.
