My Jefferson Nickel Set (WARNING: Large Images)

The first upgrade will probably be the 1939-D. After the 1950-D, it's really the only KEY to the series. I got it in G for about $5, looking for XF-AU. I got the 50-D in BU so I'm good on that end. I also started a peace dollar set, so I'll be working on that also.

Great collection. I think you should aim to downgrade the '50-D. Circs are much more difficult to find for that issue than uncs. Getting the collection to a relatively uniform grade could be a significant challenge, and then you'll discover what's truly "key" and what's not.

lol Winston... I don't have the 73-D yet. that's the coin on the other page behind it.

My grandpa started this set in the 60's, and got about 80% of the 1938-64 run. Then my grandmother on my mom's side gave me the 1964-1996 set for Christmas a few years ago, about 65% done. I just had to fill in the rest, and buy the Dansco.

That's a very handsome set, Chad! thumbsup2.gif

Thanks Tom!

Hoot, would you reccomend carrying the very BU coins as pocket pieces for a while? They'd get circulated like the rest. I'd just have to make sure not to spend them...

I wouldn't carry them in your pocket for a few reasons that include the fact that these coins should be able to be found fairly quickly at a larger show and also because you might wear them down, but it is unlikely you will build up a patina from carrying them around.

The '50-D is the only coin to sell for much in circulated

grades but otherwise isn't really the key to the series.

All of the '82-P varieties are scarcer in unc and far scarcer

in choice or gem. There are probably a few other post '64

issues that are scarcer in unc. These sell for much less

because there is much less demand.

You'll be able to find a nice circulated '50-D, Chad. If you'd like, I can keep my eyes peeled for one on your behalf.
