Is that PVC?

22 posts in this topic

Hey Guys,

I like the look of this 1922 Peace dollar. I'm trying to save up for a local coin show, so unless it stays really low, which is possible as it is a 22', I don't think I'll bid on it. But what is that [embarrassing lack of self control] on the reverse? Is that PVC?

1922 Peace Dollar

As always, thanks for any insight

winstonware----I actually like the looks of the coin too. And, I have seen Peace Dollars with that light blue toning as truly NT coins. But I caution you---look at the other so--called toners that he has on. Look especially at the 42 Walker. Do these other coins look NT to you?? And secondly, if these were all nicely toned NT coins, why are they not slabbed by a reputable TPGS?? As always, this is just my humble opinion--- and it is just one person's opinion----but I would save my money if I were you. Bob [supertooth]

So you're saying that it's toning Bob? I did think of that, but the green color and the way it looked on the devices made me think of pvc. confused-smiley-013.gif

Bob, those are good points. I am always eager to hear from knowledgable folks like yourself - so thank you. I'll just save my money for the coin show that I'm waiting for.

Maybe I'll put a little money aside for Hayden's block party too thumbsup2.gif Is that going to be open bar Hayden?

Hey Hayden and winstonware-----Yes, I think that it is toning. But, heck, you and everyone else knows how the pictures never seem to look like the coin---after you get the coin in hand. Look at the obverse rims---there is color there. But what kind of color?? That coin could be a real nice piece--or it could be a real nice piece of AT toning. The blue--green on the reverse could be PVC but with the look from the rest of the coin, I rather think that it is toning of some sort. The big question is whether that toning is real or not?

It would be worth 5 bucks to see for yourself. But, I would bid no more than that---and surely someone will overbid that number. I can only go back to my comment----if it was real, why isn't it in a holder? But, again, JMHO. P.S. You could always email the seller and inquire. It never hurts to ask a Direct question. Then ask if he has a return policy?? Bob [supertooth]

I don't think that that is PVC, but I also do not like the look of that coin. In my opinion, you should stay away from this one since the 1922 Peace dollar should be readily available on the bourse of any decent sized show.

It’s unanimous then – I’ll stay away from this coin. Like I said, I really wanted to save my money for something nice at the coin show.

Hayden, that’s terrible. No wonder no one comes over to party with you. Diet coke!? What else you got for the party - ring-dings, bugles, devil-dogs? You couldn’t even get a swamp-rats to come over for that party! shakehead.gif

Well, that tells us nothing. All those posts were deleted by Jay Turner.

Not the opening post; it contained a picture of Hayden that Travis posted (with Hayden's permission) quite a while ago. Somebody just deleted it. blush.gif

Hayden. Tavis. Would you care to share your most recent PMs with us? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

I've seen Hayden's picture. He is 16.

(Hayden, just because you are 16 doesn't mean that you have to have diet coke wink.gif)

Nope, root beer and Dr. Pepper are fine too.
