If you want to start collecting, go to the bookstore and buy the 2007 "A Guidebook of United States Coins" AKA the Redbook. It is an excellent beginner's guide. Also check out the "What you Need to Know" forum.

Thanks Bruce & Zach.

About the quality of uploaded images [i am sure you already know this, Bruce]: it is impossible to get the perfect photo [what the item really looks like]. That's because the perfect camera does not exist. But not only that, everyone's computer monitor is calibrated differently , so there are always artifacts/colors/etc that are not actually present or that are actually missing.

Thank you so much for your precious remark regarding some of the characteristics of that coin. Now I know VF stands for "Very Fine":-)

I also have another penny. Dated 1969. With the letter D below the date. And since the 1926 one is worth 10 cents as Zach suggested, the 1969 coin is worth..hmm...being used to check the treads of my tires :-)

When its all said and done you will get more than 10 cents for the 1926. The 1969 D (Denver Which is the mint where it was made) is worth about 2 cents. This does not mean its junk. Oh and Welcome to the boards. Ask questions as needed.

I too found the picture to be of excellent quality, I know I can't get them that rich and detailed.

Zaccarium, if you pay as much attention to detail with coins as you do with photography, you will do very well!

Relooking at the coin again this coin is F-12 (Fine). To get VF-20 you need full wheat heads on the coinm which yours only shows partial.

Thank you, Silver.

As for that coin, I have no idea what country's currency it is, 27_laughing.gif.

No mention of the country's name on the other side. All I see is Elizabeth II wearing her crown and "D-G-REG-F D-1987". Could be the UK but I am not sure.
