What is the best way to remove PVC?

And no, I'm not going to touch my new commemorative wink.gif . I bought a proof frankie a few weeks ago in a soft flip. I transferred it immeadiately, but it has developed some PVC around the rim. Sould I use acetone, or some other commercial product? Should I just dip it, since there are a few other spots that detract from the coin? Can anyone recommend a product and method?

Thanks,

Zach

Soak it in acetone for a minute or so.

UPDATE: I did this yesterday afternoon, and it works like a charm. I acetoned my proof Frankie, two silver dollars I had previously posted with some sort of adhesive residue, and a Barber quarter, which revealed some nice golden toning under some gunk. I think I may put the quarter back in tonight, there is still some PVC.

The silver dollars now have a very uneven and unattractive tone. What is the chemical commonly used for "dipping".

Thanks,

Zach
