Bagged for AT - What do you think?

31 posts in this topic

Hi, Everyone,

I've been collecting for several years, and have lurked on the forums, but this is my first post. I was wondering if I could ask for some collective wisdom from the group. I recently submitted 2 coins to NGC for grading, which I had purchased from 2 different dealers; I've bought many coins from both dealers before, and their integrity is beyond question. I bought each of the coins because I thought their toning gave them spectacular eye appeal. It never occurred to me that they might be AT, because I thought they looked perfectly natural. NGC apparently did not agree, because they bagged them both for AT. What do you think? I've never had a coin bagged for AT before; are they getting stricter at NGC (and/or PCGS) on AT? I love the coins, and would love to see them slabbed eventually. Do you think I should re-submit to NGC (or PCGS)? Thanks for any advice.

Hayden, now you're just making stuff up. C'mon and try to be helpful. Find your inner Jedi and take a stab at it.

Hey,you're the one who said "NT!" wink.gif

Howdy and welcome. From the pair of images you posted on the Grant I can tell you that I would also bag this coin as AT if I had been the grader to view it. It just doesn't look "right" to me.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but the colors on that half do not appear original.

The surface has been compromised Hayden.

Do you think we should invite him to post them on James thread?

AT Coins

Sadly the coins would fit in...

Story about a dealers integrity would fit in a well. Don't you think.

Joe stick around. You'll see a lot of coins and know what to look for. Also, if you have time, Tom's website (link in his signature) has a lot of helpful information.

Yes,Tom is quite the expert when it comes to toning. He can probably spot Artificially Toned coins a mile away. thumbsup2.gif

Sorrry these coins turned out AT.... That being said if you like the eye appeal on the coins by all means they are not junk. I have bought AT coins that I liked.
