Have you ever come across a coin you would describe as "psycho"?

Hayden, I would have given you $100 for that coin. Save you all that trouble of putting it up on ebay wink.gif

Seriously though, that coin is a monster. I'm watching it just to see what it goes for. I love these toned Morgans that have various colors running through the hair showing their tiny differences in distance from the bag. Truly awesome! thumbsup2.gif

Saw this coin in some guy's registry set... NGC graded, so my first thought was NT, but now I'm not so sure.

What do you guys think? It's graded MS68*

Well, it's in the #1 Jefferson nickel registry set, so it rightly belongs there. I wouldn't mind having it..

Owner's Description:" If anyone has seen a more stunningly toned Jefferson, I can assure you I will try my level best to come up with enough money to buy it from you. For the record, I have left instructions in my will to be buried with this specimen."

I wonder if he was joking 893whatthe.gif

That specimen? Most likely he wasn't. Maybe a exumation will be in order? 27_laughing.gif

I imagine that people have lots of valuable things buried with them. Sentimental things, as well as things of value. I bet someone like Bill Gates will wannabe buried with his $50 Billion. Maybe leave his wife half, then be placed in a platinum casket, and spend a few billion to have 24/7/365 guard service to make sure nobody gets his moola.

Yeah, some people are like that with their money. I bet Bill Gates has probably allready willed most of his money too his foundation though.Heck, you can't take it with you so you might as well put it to good use. thumbsup2.gif

I guess that's true also. He's pretty nice when it comes to his money. If I were him, I'd still want to go out in style smile.gif

I'm sure his family would take care of the funeral,me... I'd rather live in style cool.gif

I'm sure that Bill Gates already lives in style. If you've got his money, you don't care what you spend. I was watching a show the other day on Da Vinci, and there was an auction on Da Vinci's notebook. Very original, very expensive. Went for $25 Million to guess who? Bill Gates. Now what the heck is he gonna do with that besides put it in a display case and look at it? Something that old, you can't really read for fear of damaging it.

Wow! I wonder what my notebooks will be worth after 500 years 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

I don't know what Bill Gates would do,but if I had $50 billion, spent $25 million on that book,I think I'd probably try to read it.Wow,here's a comparison, that book is probably worth to him what $25 would be worth to one of us! 893whatthe.gif

Damn! $227.50 with 9 days to go!!! The real bidding hasn't even begun. I could see this one up around $1000 or so. Where do you keep coming up with all these sexy toners? Trade secret?

If the Jefferson is an Appalachian Hoard coin, and it looks like it might be, then it's AT.

Appalachian Hoard coin? Could you tell us more?

Hays

Hi Hays,

From my understand it was a hoard of rolls of roll nickels that toned over the course of 50+ years.Apparently the people who bought the hoard brought the rolls to NGC and NGC graded them all.Kind of makes you think about that infamous Peace dollar and that "original envelope" wink.gif

This coin is one of a hoard known as the "Appalachian Hoard" and it covers nearly all the War nickels. I own several of these coins, as do a number of other Board members. I believe the toning is real and I have successfully crossed these into PCGS holders. My coins were NGC MS67* coins and are awesome. -TomB
