Some Auctions Make me a bit mad at times....

Here is an auction for a 1955 D Quarter...

MS 68 1995 D

I emailed the seller this.... What response you think I will get?

Hello Sir,

While I respect your grading opinions on your coins, after all they are your coins I do not for one second think your 1955 D would grade MS68 let alone MS66. No coin has ever been graded MS67 by PCGS or NGC. The coin you describe in your auction does not exist. I extensively collect Washington Quarters, and I can tell you without a doubt the 1955 D is by far one of the toughest if not the toughest to find in MS66. I am not sure an MS67 will ever be graded.

Thanks,

Bruce Lee

Bruce: I do not collect Washington quarters any more, but did try a couple years ago to assemble a set of "D" quarters from the '50'S in MS66 or higher. Most dates do not come in MS67, period! I think that they are still an undervalued series.

Clearly this coin is not an MS68; it MIGHT be a 66, but that depends on what the reverse looks like, who knows???

I must note for the record, however, that NGC has graded 25 1955-D quarters in MS67.

They were really undervalued back 10 years ago, and they still are today. They are catching up though.

You are correct on the NGC popualtion, but we all know that in Washington QTR's PCGS graded QTR's tend to bring more. This is the higher graded QTR's in whatever grade would be high for a givin date and mint. They have that perception that they grade tougher and so alot of people who chase registry sets tend to like thier coins. Not the right attitude to have if you ask me.
