Dansco 7113

8 posts in this topic

For those of you that don't know the Dansco 7113 very well, that is the Jefferson MS nickel album. I have recently acquired this album, and am very close (10 coins away) from finishing. I have all but one of the keys (1950-D) and am planning on finishing the set very soon. Grade isn't as important at this time as just having an example of the coin. My Grandpa started the set back in the 60's mostly out of pocket change, and got me a great head start. Anyone else attempted the set? If so, how far have you gotten, and in what grades did you try to get the coins? These last 10 will probably have to be gotten by searching rolls, or at local shops because they are pretty common (aside form the 1950-D). I would order them off of eBay like I have many of the other coins in the series, but shipping can be upwards of $6 for a literally 5 cent coin.

I have three albums of jeffs, including the Dansco. The first two are full: an Intercept Shield of MS65 and better pieces, a blue Whitman of circs (1938-64), and the Dansco, which is pretty full through 1970, but thins out from there. I've only half-heartedly worked on completing it. Still nice, though. I like these filled with either circulated or uncirculated coins, and it's fun to search rolls and bags for the critters. I also buy nearly every circulated (especially well-circulated) 1950-Ds I come across - tough to find.

I have Whitman 9009: Jeffs 1938-1961

and Whitman 9039: Jeffs 1962-1995

Both are complete. I both them back in May off Ebay for about $60.

The items title included the phrase "Complete! With BU 1950 D"

Most of the coins look pretty good except for the Wartime Silver.

One of these days I might get a better album for them and go through them and get replacements for the poopier coins, especially the silvers.

What's the best quality coin album?

I guess I could get them all slabbed... the next time I have $2000 I feel like burning.

I have the Whitman folder #1 - 1939 to 61 almost complete (8 coins left)

and the #2 1962 to 95 complete

I enjoy doing these circulated set, the modern ones usually cost only face value.

I just bought the 50-D in BU off of eBay, so now I can worry about the more common dates. Most I need are from the early 60's, up into the mid 90's. Some can still be found in change.

I have the Jefferson folders #1, #2, and an undated one for the most recent stuff. I have all of the most recent stuff, all but three of the coins in #2, and about a third of the first folder. With the exception of the silver wartime, everything has been from circulation. My family thinks I am crazy because I will go to the bank and get rolls ten at a time, look through them, pick out the ones I want, and then reroll them and take them back. It's a great way to spend an afternoon. I do the same thing with all of the circulating coinage, penny through quarter.

Dansco (#7113) makes a great album that contains all the Jefferson nickels to date. The quality is great and you can see both sides of the coins...Mike

p.s. my Dansco Jefferson Nickel set is complete. I started it in childhood, and finished it some twenty plus years later. All but a handfull of the coins were pulled for circulation.
