Dude That is exactly what I thought....well not really but...I looked thru as much VAM material as I could find and I couldn't find anything as far as die deterioration/ Corrosion for this particular year except for the reverse.

The coin looks dipped and corroded. It also looks AU but that may be the result of a weak strike and subsequent improper toning.

Hey Hoot,Are you speaking of the planchet or the die.

The pitting goes under the luster in the hair and on the cap.

I'm sure it has been dipped at some time or another as it is as white as it is.
