Today's Circulation Find - This one made me laugh

16 posts in this topic

I'm going to have to call this one "Post Mint Damage". Maybe this was a Coin Vault special and somehow got into circulation, they seem to like to gold plate coins.

Nice find! Maybe we should have a thread pined at the top of the page called "Today's find in change..."

Would anyone be against that? Arch, could you make it happen?

It's an interesting find and I agree with the assessment. However, I don't think we need to pin a thread like this at the top of the page because truly, how many finds are worthy of posting?

While I generally agree with Tom and always appreciate his knowledge and candor, I humbly disagree. I think this thread has possibilities. There is certainly a subgroup here that really likes these types of coins. I personally would be interested to see nice change finds when they occur.

This one came out of my pocket change a couple of weeks ago. I already had one in my collection so I put it up for auction. Below is the link to the auction. My investment in the coin -- one cent (plus of course the eBay fees for selling it):

eBay Auction 1999 Cent

I also recently came across this 1983 cent out of circulation which was just published on the cover of the 18 July issue of Numismatic News.

Nice return on investment there DV

Thanks. Since the publication of the 1983 cent -- I received an offer that has reached the 5-figures.

There is another Lincoln cent that I also suspect happened. If it is found -- it would also easily be a 4-figure and probably make 5-figure offers.

Can you guess which date cent it is? Here's 3 hints:

(1) It is a Memorial cent.

(2) It requires weighing.

(3) It has a ready-made market -- even if only one is found.

"5 figures??? I NEED to start searching cents!!!"

In the Numismatic News article I also illustrated a 1989-D cent struck on bronze planchet courtesy of Mike Byers of www.mikebyers.com.

That coin is currently on his Web site with a $15,000 price tag. The 1989-D that was mentioned in the article as "double struck with rotation" on a bronze planchet is also on his Web site for $25,000 while the other 1990-D cent struck on bronze planchet is $15,000.

However, like any coin transaction -- the coins value is what a seller and buyer agree to at that particular moment in time.

So Billy,

How much is the 1946 spray paint variety is worth? Do you need better pictures so you can put it in your book? 27_laughing.gif27_laughing.gif27_laughing.gif
