This bill was introduced by Ohio Senator John Sherman on a proposal of Treasury Secretary George S. Boutwell. Was later referred to as "The Crime of 1873". His portrait appears on the $50 First National Bank of Lake Geneva. Charter # 3125. He also appears on the $50 Seaboard National Bank of San Francisco, Charter # 9141.

Senator John Sherman and Representative William Kelley were the drafters of the Mint Act of 1873, I think John Sherman went on to appear on a National Bank Note.
