I knew the headline would get you smile.gif

I was playing around trying to get some pictures of my pandas last night. I've been using a technique of using a one gallon milk jug as a type of light box to minimize glare on my proof coins. I shine a simple 100 watt spot light through the side of the carton and snap away. Well, normally the flood is on a stand that keeps it a few inchs off the ground but I didn't notice that it had fallen. I was working away and before I noticed it, there was nice burn mark from the heat of the lamp in the middle of our living room carpet. Oh 893censored-thumb.gif!

I'm never going to hear the end of this from my wife who already thinks I'm nuts. Now I "owe" her a new carpet.

Next time, just pick up the light bare-handed and get a nasty burn. Tell your wife, "well, sweetie - ouch! - I could have gone to get something to - ouch! - pick it up safely, but I just didn't want to mess up - ouch! - the carpet any more than it was already - ouch! - damaged. I know how much you like - ow! ow! ow! - the carpet. Gee I'm - OW! - really sorry."

Her answer will be, "Sweetheart, I'm not mad about the carpet - I'm just glad you're not badly burned. Can I get you a nice cold drink, and maybe some lovin' later?"

Nice pics! How big was the burn? If it was small, you can cut it out and just replace that section.

The carpet actually melted. I'd guess it's about 2 inchs by three inches but looks pretty nasty. The carpet's 10 years old now so I don't have piece to patch in. I think My wife was secretly happy to have an excuse for new carpet anyway.

You guys really think the pictures are good or are you just trying to make me feel better? Most of the puictures you guys post look really nice but they are typically older toned coins. My collection is all modern and I have a hard time with proof and bright MS coins. The mirrors fields just show up black and the look is a little surrealistic.

I didn't invent the technique so I can't claim credit but I'll be happy to sell you my milk jug for oh, say, $800 smirk.gif I think I actually saw reference to using the milk jug on a post here. There was a link to an article that more fully explained it. So far it's the best I've found for proof issues. I thought I had it bookmarked but I can't find it. If I can find it through a google, I'll post it here.

I really like the way that picture looks, however when it comes right down to it I prefer the non-milk jug approach to modern proofs. Of course opinions vary between using the milk jug and normal shooting but it's not really that big of deal...

I love an optimist. grin.gif

She may indeed say this, but will very likely also require lots of this:
