Got lots of coins from my Dad and don't know anything about them

15 posts in this topic

Hello-

I'm usually in the comic forum, but my Dad(antique dealer) has been asking me to get rid of a ton of stuff on ebay. I came across a Portfolio of Coins and Stamps, called the George Washington Portfolio. Anyone know anything about it?

It's got a bunch of stamps of differn't prices between $.5 and $.2 that appear to be old. It's also got quarters from 1932, 1964, 1965, Bicentennial, and philadelphia, denver, and San fran mint marks. It has an official U.S. Mint Medal and a $1 Silver certificate.

Can you tell me anything about this? and about how much it's worth? Thanks so much!!!

It might help if you had pictures... From the sound of it, and I know nothing about stamps, but depending on the condition... maybe a $20-$35 set?

I doubt there is too much of numismatic value here, but it seems like a remarkably nice display set! Usually you see these sorts of sets and they seem really cheesy, but this one looks very nice. I would not be at all surprised to see this set sell for more than $50 on eBay.

Sweet! This is nice to hear. Thanks

I'd hold on to it unless your dad is insisting that you sell it for him.

Does anyone else think the 1965 quarter in the picture looks to be in excellent shape (at least from that distance)?

Looks like a nice cartwheel to me. thumbsup2.gif

If you read the first post, the poster specifically states that his father wants to sell this material on ebay. I doubt it has any sentimental value.

The set itself is far nicer than I imagined it, based upon my experience of seeing this kind of product. The stamps are in very nice shape, though worth very little, and the coins are essentially worth bullion. You may get very lucky and have a 1932-D or 1932-S quarter, but you will have to dismantle the set and look for the mintmark on the reverse.
