Nice! I like the toning in this one. It's good to see that you're not overindulging. What have you got yourself down to - 3 coins/day now?

When I pulled my back out I decided I needed to take a week off and relax so I take a trip or two too the coinshop and RELAX.

Next week It will be back to normal. sorry.gif

Editted to say, The prices have been pretty easy to say yes to.

I think your coin shops in Virginia must be more enjoyable than my coin shops here in Boston. The shops here are pretty hustle and bustle. If I'm not coming from work and dressed nicely, I either get no attention or "what do want" type attention.

There is only one I go to here.Until they got to know me (after a year or so) it was that way here as well.

I think coin dealers are a suspicious lot any way. grin.gif

Winton I know that feeling, and since I am younger one I get that all the time.... For me its more like the look of "oh great maybe we can sell him some junk silver" until I ask if they have "coin X' usally a key date to let the shop know I am a bit more serious than just junk silver.

Hey guys - thanks. I don't know if that's good news or bad news. I also don't know if I want to reward someone who I feel mistreated me. It's tough, because as much as I like ebay, I would like an in-hand assesment of higher priced coins.

Its not good, but in a way it keeps the customers honest. Why show a young kid a 1799 Draped Bust Dollar in AU55, when 99% of the time he will not be able to afford it. A dealer would rather show him a coin he can afford. Now as it pretains to Adults, this becomes a case, of the dealer and you getting to know each other better and he knowing what you like to collect. The better you get to know him, the more friendly, etc he will be. With the recent silver and gold jump, people were coming into coin stores and buying whatever they could get there hands on. Now would you as a coin dealer, want to sell an investor a 1799 Bust Dollar, so it can sit in a safe for 20 years and have some guy who knows, nor cares notrhing about it, own it. The only fact he cares about is the $$. I would rather sell that coin to a collector, and I think dealers realize this. You remember the last silver spike, well many coins, were lost in the scrape for many years, including many CC dollars, just to sit in a safe and be money makers.

On a side note, for anybody who thinks a dealer is looking after his bottom line angle and does not care who buys the coins, rethink that. Say a collector buys a 1799 Bust dollar vs an investor, the collector is more likely to trade it back in and or sell it back to the dealer than an investor would, and thus the dealer could sell it again and make money again.

I'm not sure that I entirely agree with that. The coin stores here (and probably everywhere) have many coins outside of my current budget. But if the coin dealer takes the time to allow me to look at the $5,000 coin then I am much more likely to buy my $500 coins from him/her (him in this case though). Also, I'm only 30 years old. I may be able to buy those higher priced coins in a couple years. But now the coin dealer has turned me off. I'd rather take my money to a coin show and buy from a stranger. At least someone who hasn't treated me poorly.

Anyway, I didn't mean to go on about it. That's just how I feel.

Fantastic James And I tend to agree with you when it comes to dealers and getting my business.

The Morgans I have posted here are relatively inexpensive Because they are raw.

with the exception of the 83CC they were $30.00 to $35.00.

edited for spelling

I agree that the dealer SHOULD show you some really nice coins and most dealers will. Just not on your first visit into a shop. The more you get to know a dealer the more he will show you. For being 30 your off to a great start in coins. Sometimes if a dealer has a coin I want, I bite the bullet abit and buy the coin. A dealer usally gets more friendly if you spend a bit of money with him, and now thinks your not a time bandit. If it were up to me every dealer would have every coin out and show any coin to anybody, but thats not the way it is, sad but true.

On a side note, I have never had a dealer make me so mad I will not return. I don't get mad I get even. That being another coin I would purchase from him.
