My latest purchases over the last two months

19 posts in this topic

I went practically 6 months w/o buying a coin but I've made up for that over the last two months. Here they are:

My favorite I received today. An 1870 Seated Liberty Dime NGC PR64 from Mark Feld for $650. It has gorgeous mirrors, cameo'd appearance and beautiful, concentric blue album toning on the obverse and golden on the reverse:

My second favorite is the 1853 A&R VF-30 (raw) half dime that I got from James Garcia for $115. It is a circulated coin but oh so lovely with gorgeous blue toning:

My third favorite is this 1930 Standing Liberty Quarter NGC MS65 FH which I purchased from Mark Feld for $650. I think that the FH is weak but it is an awesome, original coin:

My fourth favorite is this 1810 Bust Half Dollar (raw) AU-53 which I just purchased from leeg on the NGC boards via ebay for $340. It was originally a James Garcia coin. Even though it has been cleaned before, it has retoned with a very nice blue patina. There are no distracting hairlines and it is a very clean coin:

My fifth favorite is an 1855 Large Cent PCGS MS63 BN, "Upright 55"; N-1/R3 which I also purchased from Lee Gast from his Dansco collection for $250.

And finally, the last but not least is a 1909 VDB Lincoln cent PCGS MS65 Red which I purchased from ANR for $125. I think this actually has more eye-appeal than many 66's that I've seen. There are no unsightly carbon spots or any other eye-sores. It is a very lovely coin but you have to take my word for it since I haven't imaged it yet.

Well, I hope that you all have enjoyed my recent acquisitions. I know that Rexcat will. We have a mutual fan club going on. tongue.gif

I’m a big fan of the circulated stuff myself – That VF half dime is nicer than

my whole collection! Is that a little doubling I see on the obverse, right at

her face?

Which coin is your favorite and why? thumbsup2.gif

The proof dime - because of the price.

Imagine, only 1000 made, and this is probably one of the top 100(worst case!!) in existence today. All for under a GRAND !!! thumbsup2.gif

How much for a 95W proof SAE???... confused.gif

The 1853 half dime 'cause it's the predecessor to the nickel 5c. wink.gif The bust half is wonderful. Heck, they're all great, and I can't pick just one.

I certainly agree with you, GAB, for the same reason! I just prefer 19th century proofs when affordable. I tell ya, some, make that all of the 19th century proofs and patterns that TDN and Boiler78 have shared make me drool.

I still find it hard to imagine that coins with such low mintages and even lower attrition for unabused, higher graded proofs are priced so little! These are the true bargains in today's market which may not necessarily remain so.

Plus, it is just a down right purdy coin.

Brotherman,

I see what you're saying. The face certainly looks doubled. Mr. Garcia, what say you?

Thanks for all of the intelligent feedback, boardsters! 893applaud-thumb.gif

Oh, did I say that all were intelligent replies:

The proof dime - it's crunchy.

you be the judge. 27_laughing.gif
