okay, i'm new to collecting coins, so bear with me. i recieved an american half dollar coin from my greatgrandmother some time ago. the other day i accidently dropped it on the floor and it split open. attached to the tails part of the coin inside is a penny the same size as the half dollar with someone sitting holding a trident on it. the heads part of the coin is like the lid of a metal container........anyone ever see this before? or could anyone give me any info?? it would be greatly appriciated!!

Cool!!! The age of the american half dollar is important. Earlier pieces were cut and made into snuff box containers, the copper coin is a british penny pre-1971 and probably from the early 30's. Any dates on the coins and coin box?

Ah! Like Braddick said, something for tricks, not a snuff box. The penny has queen elizabeth on one side and brittania seated on the reverse. More quaint than valuable.
