Got my 10 coin proof sets today and well.........................

10 posts in this topic

I'm not very pleased this year!!!

Both sets I purchased for my collection are going to be returned this year, for exchange!!!

First, the obverse of the missouri quarter has a deep gouge on the rim at 9 o'clock. All the quarters have wonderful strikes!!! Full hard strikes!! Beautiful coins , but,,, well,,,,..... whats up with that gouge???

SORRY, I DONT HAVE A SCANNER TO SHOW EVERYONE THE COINS!!! frown.gif

All right then....

Moveing on........

the regular 5 coin set looks great as well...

full, hard strikes. beautiful coins, but, the kennedy has what I would call ( or looks like to me ) a bag mark!! You know the ones that come on regular strikes, from being mixed up and rolled around with other coins!!

Above his head , between the E and R!!!

Now, as I have stated before, Proof coins are specially made and handled! And, at this time... I'm not going any furthur than that...

You know what?? Right now I'm flammin mad at the U.S. mint.. And tomorrow they are going to here about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! frown.giffrown.giffrown.giffrown.giffrown.giffrown.giffrown.giffrown.giffrown.giffrown.giffrown.giffrown.giffrown.giffrown.gif

Struck fragment possibly, or a wild die crack?

It's a [!@#%^&^] quarter. Now sell that bad boy to Conservative for $100.

I feel you pain,

1- I didn't order any sets, but received 2 because apparently they did not cancel my subscription from over a year ago!

2- The quality was much worse this year. I have on OK set that I'll keep, but the other had a cent with crud on it! Since I was breaking up a set anyway, I just threw it on ebay to get rid of it. Cheaper than sending it back to the mint for an exchange.

I hope that we are not returning to the bad old days of the '80's when I bought sets from dealers only, because the mint product was so erratic in quality that is was not cost efficient to order from them. QA from the mint for sets sold at multiple premiums from issue coins ought to be a given, assuring higher quality. Otherwise get the circ strikes from the bank at face!

I received 3 sets last week. They were all super nice, much nicer than last year. There were no marks, lint or anything on the coins. The frost was much thicker than the sets I bought last year. I predict there will be loads of 69 Ultras made shortly.

I gave up on the US MInt after I had to return a set of gold proofs four times in a row. Never again. I'll get them slabbed, if at all.
