coinman_23885
The lone Wheat Cent found in the jar was a 52-D. I pick this up for the story. Now that I think about it, this would have been the perfect winning prize. OP I'm surprised that the coin survived at the MS65 level given the heavy clad coins that you had scrapping along it. It is a nice coin. Was your grandmother a collector by chance? It's hard to imagine that she would gem uncirculated coins if she didn't have any interest; does she have anything else? Nice Lincoln there OP. Nice Half Jeff. Is that in a EF45-AU50 PCGS slab? It's very solid for the grade. It's beautiful and I like the surfaces, especially for a lightly circulated coin; great eye appeal. Edited: You answered my original question while I was posting it. Just picked this 1917-S REV Walker for my Dad's birthyear set: Elbessar, I'm trying to practice and sharpen my grading skills in this area. Do you mind if I ask you the grade? I'm going to guess that it is a solid AU55 with good eye appeal. Beautiful coins everyone!
Elbesaar
The 1917-S REV Half is in a PCGS AU 58 holder. I can see where you might have guessed AU 55, as there is rub; most noticably on the Eagle's lead leg. The image doesn't show the luster correctly - and there is minimal rub, really. There's only a minor luster break. Nowhere near AU 50 - there is way too much luster and detail to be considered an AU 50. The "hand and thumb" detail is too great to be on an AU 50; usually, at that grade level, the "hand and thumb" detail has worn off [ if there was any to begin with.]

Coinman, this is not the 52 - D from the jar. I bought this ms65 as a token of memory. Here's the original. I should have made that clear. Sorry, OP

I'm learning the series, slowly but surely. That is a VERY nice AU 58 17 S rev. Walker, I might add. You know I like that!! Just FYI: Although, I can see it is a AU coin, the rub is VERY minimal and ONLY on the VERY highest points. This coin displays well defined breast feathers (each feather is individually distinguishable). The thumb and hand are well defined, as well. Head is soft but that occurs even at the MS 64 level, so it may not be wear but STRIKE. Skirtlines in center are well defined with wear or incompleteness only at the highest points, Fields above motto are quite clean and lusterous. Another way to tell a good Walker is the OLIVE BRANCH STEMS exhibit full split detail (as this coin does), which is not always present even on MS coins. This is a nice slider with wear manifesting itself as more of a roundness of the edges of eagles breast feathers (an MS coin would be SLIGHTLY sharper in detail), rather than incomplete detail, b/c all of the design elements are there. Just a little rub on the skirts that I can see in the image, as well, but even this would have to be tilted from side to side under a good light source to REALLY be seen well; where the gray areas of rub have caused a slight luster break. This is because this issue, many times DOES NOT display full skirtlines. This is a VERY SOLID, TECHNICAL AU 58. This coin also looks quite original with a nice light to medium tone. Can't ask for much more than this for it's assigned grade.

Captain Clipon
2006-D Satin Lincoln NGC MS69! Working hard to complete my MS69 Lincoln Satin set. I need three more not counting the 2010 coins. There are no values attached to these coins in the registry set. I wonder what the criteria is to determine a price. Captain Clipon
That's the first I have heard of an MS70 satin Lincoln, Schatzy! I haven't looked in a while but when I did the MS69 was the top grade in any of the satin Lincolns. Looks like I already need to upgrade before the set is even completed! Wow, thanks a lot. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.
