The 75% collection 25% speculation is probably a good rule to follow from that article. I wouldn't know since I have yet to sell any of my coins. I guess I'm a 100% collector.

High grade US type - a lifelong project for the grades I want.

 

Looking at large cents now and an FE.

 

I recently finished a date set of Ikes in MS and PR 66-68, and I've completed half of a date set of Peace Dollars.

 

Lately I've become interested in colonials, and I buy silver commems - at least one a per month - the ones nobody seems to care about.

 

Except no collecting in April - got to pay the tax man. frustrated.gif

I think it’s great that collectors buy certain coins knowing that they will not be putting them away forever. As I stated above, it familiarizes them with the selling process and it helps to recycle coins that might otherwise not sell.

 

'Tis a lesson I have learned. One is not a well-rounded collector until he has also experienced the selling side. This will make one a more astute buyer.
