Roosevelt FT/FB designation

4 posts in this topic

Could someone elaborate on what the requirements are for this? With Mercs, the FB designation is a slam dunk, in my opinion, but I look at a lot of Roosies with and without the FT/FB designation and I've got to say, I sometimes don't see a lot of difference. And when you're seeing a rather large price jump between those with and those without, I'm feeling like makepoint.gif

OK, I found this on the PCGS site

Most of the non-full band designated, recently graded dimes I've seen are nowhere near as flat as the example they show, though. And I've got some new NGC graded dimes with torches that look as full as others I have that ARE graded FT.

Do they throw darts to determine if the coin gets the FB/FT, or what insane.gif

Part of the problem is that the designation is treated differently by the various services. SEGS, PCGS, ICG and ANACS require only for the two bands that hold together the fasces of the torch on the reverse of the Roosevelt dime to be well defined, fully split and uninterrupted. NGC requires not only the same, but also that the fasces of the torch be fully split and uninterrupted.

Also, bear in mind that the designation is only 2 or 3 years old, and many coins were graded in the past without the designation in place. Additionally, many coins appear in more modern holders that were simply re-holdered and not reviewed for designation.
