How would you go about acquiring a Pillar Dollar?

Catalog for that coin is $250 in XF. That one looks kin of washed out, you can probably do better.

It's Lot 1106 in the April 22 Early American Auctions sale - with internet bidding available. laugh.gif

 

(The estimate is a little higher than your budget, but after you stamp out (and sell on EBay) a few hundred you should make your money back, with a neat profit. Besides, its a 2 Real, so it's twice as valuable.dancing%20smiley.gif )

The coin looks like it has been dipped or cleaned more heavily and has no original patina or gunk remaining. This is common on these pieces and I would not pay that type of money for this. The one that I have was bought raw in December 2004 at the Baltimore show and cost less than the coin you are currently thinking about. Please note that my image is just a scan but that the coin really is that dark in-hand.
