now for me it would be a classic head large cent that has a really choice planchet not dark NOT CHOCOLATE BROWN and no corrosion or porosity.... yes not perfect but damn close with again a choice planchet and also would be really close to unc. with a beautiful tan brown surface

now another coin for me might be a slightly better date lower mintage three dollar gold coin really choice slider unc. cloud9.gif

Yeah, I could use one of those too.

I keep bidding on those fool patterns and always get my butt kicked.

I would love to have a bust dollar with some nice detail. Not sure why but I have always had an attraction to those coins

As nice of an 1836 Half Eagle as I could find - for 5K, probably MS-62 or so. There are just not enough nice Classic Halves to go around! I'd rather have a proof, but would probably have to add 2 more ZERO's to get a nice one!

You stole my answers. frown.gif

Although if I had $5k to spend, I'd probably find three really nice toned proof type coins, like a no-motto seated half dollar, a blue proof IHC, or a really nice tissue toned barber half....Mike

I've been thinking about this since last night and have always come back to the same coin. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

If I had $5,000 to spend on a single coin for my collection, and I could specify the coin and it could be found, then it would have to be a perfect Vermont landscape cent. I'm not writing about an MS70 piece, I figure the perfect Vermont landscape that would sell for the range of $5,000 would have to be a VG8, even though one can find coins graded VF30 for $3,500.

So, what is a perfect Vermont landscape? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif One with a choice, original planchet that is not porous, that has no marks, digs, scratches or dings, one that is completely centered so as to have the entire design outlined without a planchet crack, one that is a smooth, deep brown without stains, verdigris or PVC and that has never been cleaned. Oh yes, it should also be raw. hail.gifhail.gifhail.gifhail.gifhail.gifhail.gifhail.gifhail.gifhail.gifhail.gif
