Baltimore is always an active collector venue and last week's show was no exception. We met with many of our regular customers, as well as several new faces. While the overall market continues to move full steam ahead, several sluggish areas remain overlooked: notably Silver Commemoratives, Peace Dollars, and mint state and proof Barber and Seated material. Also off the radar is most proof nickel coinage.

ANR hosted a fine auction, with total prices realized of nearly $13 million. Our good friend Dale Friend auctioned his finest PCGS Registry Set of Liberty Nickels. With an average grade over MS-66, two-thirds were finest or tied for finest certified by PCGS and none were graded lower than MS-65. We were pleased to see that he did especially well on his 1883 No Cents in MS67 and his 1912-S in MS66, as both were purchased from us. Another good Pinnacle client, Richard Jewell, auctioned off his lovely collection of Silver Commemoratives bringing solid bids.

Select ANR highlights:

1883 With Cents 5C PCGS MS67 $34,500

1885 5C PCGS MS67 $74,750

1912-S 5C PCGS MS66 $22,500

1794 H10C PCGS MS64 $83,375

1866-S 50C PCGS MS65 $64,400

1935-D Boone (Small 1934) PCGS MS68 $29,900

1938-S Boone PCGS MS68 $32,200

1937-D Boone NGC MS69 $23,000

The red hot areas of the market continue to be all Draped and most Capped Bust material, Early Gold, Proof Gold and Three Dollar Gold. Pinnacle had a tremendous buying show and we should have our new purchases posted by the end of the day Friday. We were successful locating some great want list items for clients, most notably a 1920-S $20 PCGS MS66.

I shouldn't give away my secrets, but Pinnacle has been a very good source for me over the years, as it has for Michael, too, I believe. Folks could do much worse than spending some time on their web site looking through the coins and reading what there is to offer.
