Tibetan coin - is it fake ??

the krause number is Y9

only bought my book yesterday, after getting the coin (the other book dates from 96 and is back home)

and also, although i have quite an extensive collection i'm not really a pro at all and i wouldn't know what the "usual suspect characteristics" that you speak of would be.....

Thomas, may I recommend:

"Official Guide to Coin Grading and Counterfeit Detection" by Scott Travers and John Dannreuther.

A really good primer and a great starting point. For instance, and I quote:

"The ultimate secret to counterfeit detection is knowledge of what the genuine coin should look like. If one knows the characteristics of the genuine coin, everything else must be called into question."

Hence my first point: weigh it!

Good luck, good hunting, and may all your counterfeits be of the "found" variety where no REAL coin of the realm has changed hands.(from yours to theirs)
