Post a DOA coin

19 posts in this topic

Here's one. Sold in Goldberg's Benson I sale as a PCGS MS64RD for $14,950.

It quickly was listed in many Heritage auctions in its new PCGS MS65RD slab and finally sold for $17,250 a little over a year later, after many attempts.

I consider this a DOA coin that has found its final resting place. PCGS got it right the first time, it's a 64RD.

I don't know enough to offer a worthwhile opinion on the cent, but did want to compliment you the graphics. The coffin analogy brought a smile to my face.

I have a very hard time finding anything that isn't already in a coffin.

Your image is great, Paul. For those of you who haven't visited Paul's "Altered Surfaces" site (link provided in his signature), you should do it. The pictures are very clever, amusing, and wonderful examples of what can be done by someone who has mastered photo software.

Agreed and Agreed! Shylock has put together some of the most delightful and clever images in the coin community.

Bruceswar: I don't have a coin to post... but that image is great...

Thanks. The image says more than the post. I love graveyards but not when it comes to coins. As already mentioned by many posters, DOA means a coffin coin, an overgraded coins final resting place. I take special pleasure when PCGS strikes the final nail on the coffin wink.gif

IGWT - I have a very hard time finding anything that isn't already in a coffin.

My theory about certified grading is: eventually all coins will be overgraded and we'll be tripping over each other to bid on the least overgraded coins.

Thanks for the plug IGWT. My interest in coins is borderline satirical these days.

I try my hardest not to buy coffin coins and on those occasions when I slab a coin and it becomes a coffin coin it invariably gets sold immediately.

Dude, you are talented! I love your humor and what you've done to debase US coinage! grin.gif

The "Wizzard of OZ" and "Gulliver's Travels" were both written as political satires and the authors have become famous. Who know's, perhaps your name will lead the rest? confused-smiley-013.gif

This is perhaps my favorite:

What software did you use?

Thanks EZ_E, not every coin collector gets the humor. We tend to be a very serious, nerdly group.

As Bruceswar alluded to Photoshop is the best friend a coin collector could ever have wink.gif
