Silver Melt

9 posts in this topic

I was wondering if there was some sort of chart or something out there where you could find the silver melt values for coins that weigh less than 1 Oz. without having to do all the math? Like a 1943 Mercury Dime. It's got silver, but how much would it melt for? The year is so popular that it wouldn't sell for much, so what if I wanted to melt it? Anyone know where I could find a chart like this? Not just the melt value for the dime, but pre-1964 quarters, war nickels, halves, and things of that nature. Thanks!

The big problem with this is the stuff that usually gets melted is well worn stuff, so the original weight is not much of a help. FYI, if you sell this stuff as scrap, they will want you to sort it by fineness and then they will weigh it.
