What do you like about modern US coinage?

Not much here wink.gif

But I do like the modern rendition of Liberty and think she's among the best redesigns of all modern coins.

Do any other modern US designs merit a post?

I don't like her on the Walker or the A.S.E. simply because I don't like her cap. Or is it a hat?

Anyway, I think the best looking modern commerative is the 50C George Washington. The work on the breast of his coat is remarkable.

I very much like Jefferson's portrait on the new nickels, and the fact that it "flows" over the left of the obverse. Unfortunately, the word "Liberty" is crowding the field. It should have been placed on the reverse.

Gorgeous design! You did a great job in cutting and formatting! It give a beautiful appearance like a cameo. I think that I'm going to save it in my pix. Thanks. thumbsup2.gif

I'm not a big fan of most of the modern coinage, barring the silver eagles. I would like to see Liberty get back on the obverse of the main circulating coins. I have to say, though, I really like the reverse on the Eisenhower bicentennials.

I don't like the new nickel portraits; they feel too 'self-conscious' to me - not so much classic as modern, like the new bills coming out. Liked the buffalo reverse, though.

They are finally starting to change the design on circulating coins like the Jefferson Nickel and the State Quarter Series. Other than the Bicentennial quarters and halves, I believe that these are the first design changes since the Kennedy Half in 1964 and the Lincoln Memorial one cent reverse in 1959. About time, in my opinion.

I like a few of the designs such as the refreshing view of Washington on the half dollar, the specimen matte proof nickel finishes, the strength and vigor in the Jefferson dollar portrait, the Bicentennial quarter reverse, a few of the state quarters particularly NJ and the use of the Gardin-Fraser work for the half eagle.
