2006P DDO Cent - New Discoveries

13 posts in this topic

I've found two distinctly separate varieties of 2006P DDO and one variety of wavystop that I think has a DDO as well. They can be viewed at Coppercoins.com in their forum and under their "recent additions".

This variety has been described as the strrongest DDO cent produced since the mint started making dies using the single-squeeze process. I don't nkow if that is true, I just find them and send them off for the experts to discuss and write about. But these are sweet.

The first DDO has notching in the NW corners of IBERTY in LIBERTY. The date is thicker. Something that I've never seen before is a thickening of the features on Lincoln's portrait. His ear is wider than normal, his hair is much thicker as is his beard too.

Yep -- I came across it and it's now assigned in my files as 2006 1c CDDO-001.

I also recently came across a 2005 cent that is now assigned in my files as CDDO-001. It's stronger than the 2006 1c DDO.

edited to add: I went to 15 different banks today buying out rolls of cents. My room is filled with boxes of cents. Ahhh yes -- back to the good ole days of heavy searching. I luv it!

The doubled dies aren't that common but the varieties of them certainly are. Here's another example and my latest find out of 5 different DDR's and 3 DDO's all are 2006P...

Dang it Robert!!!!!! Slow down -- I can't keep up!!??!!

Robert -- to let you know, I came across your 2006 "wavy steps" DDR. However, it is also a DDO showing very light notching on the top left corners of the letters "RTY" of LIBERTY as well. It has that vertical die scratch extending between the letters "B" and "E" of LIBERTY outward into the fields north/south. I have now assigned it in my Crawford "C" files as 2006 1c CDDO-002 + CDDR-001.

Thanks Billy. Yes, that's the one, it has the long die crack there. I knew it was a DDO/DDR. I have some very close photos showing the notching in TY. Did you find any of the DDO-001 mixed in the rolls with the wavystep? And have you found any with the weird "fish-scaling"?

I checked cc site. They only show wavy steps as listed as the DDR. Did they NOT list the DDO combo?

Yes on the CDDO-001 mixed in. Don't recall the fish-scaling any yet.

Here's pics I did of the 2006 1c CDDO-002 + CDDR-001 I came across. Light notching is just visible on the top left corners of the letters "RTY" of LIBERTY. Another very important hub doubling diagnostic is notice that the left arm of the letter "Y" of LIBERTY is much thicker as compared to the normal thickness of the right arm. This is caused by the tilt and snapping back into correct horizontal alignment. I take it coppercoins.com didn't list this as a DDO because I don't see it up on their web site but only listed the "wavy steps" as the DDR. The next pic shows that long verticle die scratch for die marker attribution.

That's it 2006P-1DR-001. I had a talk with them at coppercoins and it seemed to be borderline whether they would also list it as a DDO or not. They decided not to and that's certainly fine with me. I don't know if I sent them an example that didn't show enough notching or what but I'm fine with whatever they do with it. They've got their system and it workes for them. I just find them, I don't analyze or critique them. That's their area of expertise. They have a very nice place where I can bring my major finds and drop them off to keep on file for everyone to see and refer to. And I think that's one of the greatest thing that anyone could do for this hobby.
