the Cannon Powershot Pro... and a few coins...

10 posts in this topic

I like shooting my images during the day, though I have done many night shots...

I prefer a natural bright sunlit room. I also use two sylvania flood lamps with a daylight spectrum....

I use Macro Mode on my camera and a tripod and i use full zoom to get up and person with the coins, as I like to try and capture the grain detail/metal flow.

I do prefer some dark areas in m images so that the luster has a sharp contrast where the light is hitting it, as this is how my eyes naturally see a coin... many don't like this and will tell me to add another light, however I do this by design..

I do move my lights around alot, it depends on the coin being imaged....

lookie this new cent..

I will shoot many images of a coin, and select the images that are truely

faithful to what the coin truely looks like... It is fun...

Lucille, I have been really impressed with the shots you have taken, so I bought the same Canon. I remember the close-up shot you showed us of the War Memorial (?). What settings did you use to take this picture? I have a Morgan $ with a doubled die clash and I need to take an extreme close-up of the clash. Do you have any suggestions?

I think you should contact Bob (supertooth) about doing a "WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW" thread on coin photography. It would undoubtedly be very interesting and informative.

Thanks!

Chris

You want a close-up with stunning detail? How about IKE's home?

Ditto for me. I've had success in getting some quality photos but I continue to be amazed at the lighting, clarity and detail you get on your images, Lucille.

Outstanding! 893applaud-thumb.gif

Honey, I don't know much about cameras or photography...

my camera is the powershot pro1, 8 mega pixel....

the dial selector on my camera is set to P, in this mode I then select super macro mode...

then i zoom in on a coin and shoot....

sometimes using a tripod, many times holding the camera myself...

I save the images as the largest file possible, then i crop them in photoshop....

my best photos come in a natural sunlit room, but I can still shoot some good ones at night under the sylvania daylight flood lamps....

If I can do this, anybody can.....

The powershot pro is a awesome camera... it has many features that i am clueless about, but it can really take a quick simple point sand shoot image....
