I was considering sending this piece to NGC and was just wondering what your opinions were on the on the grade as well as the originality of the toning:

I don't think the toning's a problem at all, but whether or not it's RD vs RB ... 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

Personally, I would not submit it, unless you're certain it will RD. These are simply much too common in RB grades to be worth the expense.

I have no doubt the toning is AT. I purchased two Lincolns with that very same color a while ago that were in PCI holders and after showing them to an experienced dealer/collector I was informed that they were recolored....probably to hide an old cleaning.

You get that in a PCGS or NGC holder and I'll pay you $75 bucks for it regardless of grade thumbsup2.gif

The toning is nice, but I'm not sure you should bother with the expense of slabbing.

I've done some recent shopping for 09's, and I can tell you that the market is flooded with 09 VDB's and and 09 non-VDB's, all at MS 65 RD - for about $100 apiece.

I wouldn't bother submitting it unless you were reasonably certain of getting an MS 66, in which case it would command a slightly higher premium.

Then there's the issue that most buyers prefer toned silver to toned copper, but you already know that.

It looks better than the one John Paul Sarosi tried to send me as a MS66 Red. What a loser!

I'm not a tone coin lover. I like that coin for it's grade but don't like that kind of toning. I know there are collectors out there that love toned coins but not for me.

If you really want to know if AT or NT the best thing to do is just ask someone at a coin show. However, that may not work since many dealers are not experts.

If you are planning on reselling the coin, then have it slabbed and graded.

If you are planning on keeping it for a collection, do just that.

Yep, if there is ever any doubt about whether a coin is AT vs NT, then just dip that bad boy! Heck, that will take any debate out of the issue.

Thanks for the input everyone. It looks like this one will be going up on eBay raw one of these days. I'm wanting to call it 65,but with the spots-do you think it's no better than a 64?
