Does anyone have an idea on what this might be?

Is it 38mm? Is it copper, clad or what?

I'm not sure since I just bought it and haven't recieved it yet. When I do I'll update with any pertinent information. Assuming the packaging hasn't been fooled around with what could be coppper in color and around the size of an Ike Dollar? confused-smiley-013.gif

Unless it has the outer clad layer missing like Chris' half.

We'll just have to wait and see...

Well I didn't have to wait for very long. I don't have any pics since it looks like the original picture and I'm too lazy to get my picture setup out. After freeing it from the mint packaging I compared it to an AU clad Ike dollar. The item in question is abot 1mm larger than a regular Ike dollar. Along with this discovery it's also slightly taller than the normal Ike dollar. When put on my postal scale it weighs 27 grams compared to 23 grams for the Ike dollar I have on hand(sorry.gif). There is no reeding or rim of any type on the item in question. The metal composition is most likely copper.

Those are all the observations of the item I can offer. Now do I have something of actual value or did I pay for someones handywork with a heat sealer? I'm guessing I did yeahok.gif

My opinion...I would think that if there be any value to this it would have to remain in the original untampered with cellophane.

I'd jump on it.

It's probably just someone messing around with a heat sealer or the like but if that has the same weight as a silver Ike then there's a chance that it's one of the test packages the mint made up in preparation for shipping the Ikes. These were used to gauge packaging and postage costs and at least one other of this type escaped the mint in lieu of a standard proof set.
