Latest Purchase: 1848-ZV Italy (Venice) 15c

It's an 1848-ZV Italy (Venice) 15c in NGC MS64.

 

 

I've been looking for a nice example for a LONG time. Just happened to be flipping thru NEN's site and saw this one listed. New listing without even a picture.

 

They just don't show up nice. Small mintage of only 155,000. I've found lots of circulated examples. Lots of cleaned examples. I've seen very few unc examples and they've all been cleaned. The NGC pop shows only two of these coins graded, this one and an MS65 (I'm a buyer of it if you know where it is and in fact, I'm a buyer of this type in general if it is choice unc or better).

 

This coin is a solid MS65 on the obverse, but the reverse is lightly hairlined accounting for the MS64 grade.

Nope. However, I am collecting coins with the Lion of St. Marks, so this is OK. I'm still a size snob when it comes to other coins. Taler sized mainly, but there have been a few 1/2T that have caught my eye recently.

Yup, that makes it MS64.

Oh thats right, they're separate themes. Thalers and lions, not lion thalers.
