Giving a prize might encourage cheating tongue.gif - But how about I offer some 1956 US coins - I'm sure I have some around here somewhere - might even be able to scrape up a 1956 penny, nickel, dime, quarter and half -

Do you think I'll need to get a notarized statment from the winner that he/she didn't cheat (use the 1956 Redbook for the answers) and that I'd have to get a copy of their Drivers license? wink.gif

If I'm gonna work that hard, I'll need a prize.

I agree, why don't you offer your new toned peace dollar as the prize! thumbsup2.gif

Cute Hayden 893naughty-thumb.gif - Maybe I could tone one up for you with a few rotten eggs! 27_laughing.gif

But at least I know you're young enough for this quiz - remember the Driver's license discussion at FUN? grin.gif

edited to add: Yup - the Learner's permit discussion! 893whatthe.gif

I will guess that $20 could have bought the following:

C. 1926-S Lincoln Cent Unc.

E. 1921-D Mercury Dime Unc.

F. 1936-D Washington Quarter Unc.

I think the most expensive would have been the 1903-O Morgan Unc. while the least expensive would have been the 1926-S cent in Unc. Cool question! thumbsup2.gif

I will guess that $20 could have bought the following:

C. 1926-S Lincoln Cent Unc. YES

E. 1921-D Mercury Dime Unc. - NO

F. 1936-D Washington Quarter Unc. - NO

I think the most expensive would have been the 1903-O Morgan Unc. YES - one of the 2 MOST expensive - Can you guess the other?

while the least expensive would have been the 1926-S cent in Unc. NO - but it was less than $20 in 1956

I will guess the other most expensive was the 1893-S Morgan. Now, the cheapest, perhaps the 1937-D 3-legged buffalo, or the 1808 half dollar. This is harder than I thought!

I don't have a red book nearly that old but I am going to say that for $20 bucks or less your grandfather could have acquired any of the coins A-P listed above.

As for the extra credit I will say that the 1909-S VDB was the most expensive and the 1926-S Lincoln would have been the cheapest.

Ron, this isn't fair! It's just like you having all those beautiful Morgans at FUN and every one I liked was not for sale. But, you've got one coin in your list that is the year my grandmother was born, and that is the one I would take.
