2 early proof Lincolns - PCGS, NGC.... crummy HUGE images though

That 42 looks awfully spotty and washed out for a 65.

Looks brown, too, not red as denoted. The '40 looks RB.

I've seen many Lincoln and IHCs denoted red that would never qualify if cracked and resubmitted. Seems like a pretty big liability for the grading services.

Maybe for PCGS. NGC didn't guarantee copper until recently and then only for a period of ten years. ANACS still doesn't guarantee copper. Do any of the others guarantee anything?

That's just one reasone I prefer my copper Brown. wink.gif

I've seen a few copper cents that had turned in recent NGC holders (after their implementation of the guarantee in April of 2000), but you're right - more in PCGS holders than NGC. I don't think that any other service guarantees copper. I still think it is a bit risky to guarantee that a copper piece won't change color in a holder - even if it's limited to 10 years.

I have seen a few high end (67RB) matte proofs that are in older PCGS green label holders. No way in heck would these coins ever regrade as RB. I think the OGH slabs have a problem with leakage from the inserts.

The images make both coins look much, much worse than they really are. The NGC coin is actually quite nice. It's the old problem of trying to image a reflective coin (proof) off a slab.

Both of these are destined to be cracked out, and I'll follow up with new images.

Me too!

And could you make the images just a little bit bigger please?

Hi James, the crew from the shuttle just informed me that although they could determine the certification service for each of the coins imaged, they couldn't detect any die polish lines on the individual coins while looking out the shuttle window down onto my computer here on Earth. So, could you please make the images a little larger next time they orbit? Thanks buddy! thumbsup2.gif
