I thought this was a good deal at $175 - but a wholesaler offered me only $140!

Regardless of what you have it graded out as, and where you are into it, there are two things that give me pause on this coin. The first is the rin nick or cut directly under the date as I find the positioning of this mark extemely distracting. The second is that at star position one I think there has been a stain removed from the coin and this lighter area stands out well in combination with the rim mark under the date. In my opinion, those two features of the coin will have to be included in any determination of value.

Im not the authority on this series however I would have probably been willing to go $175 as well, but with no expectation of making a profit on it. Depending on who is grading, maybe a collector would go $200, but I probably would not. I would agree with Hayden regarding the nick under the date...that kills the eye appeal for me. The light area is less obtrusive to me, and the rest of the coin is really nice. $145 doesnt surprise me at all as I doubt a reseller would get much more than what you paid for it. Consider it a solid addition to your collection at a fair value.

Gorgeous coin. Fabulous strike and nice clean surfaces.

Unfortunately the rim ding kills it for me.

I value the coin at $100.

AU details, rim damage, net XF.

I was thinking somwhere around $100 as well,a nice coin but not for $175...

I have to admit the two rim dings kill the eye appeal for the coin. Toms comment about the area under the date makes me suspect it could be a 51 over 81. I can't really tell from the picture. Does it look like the date has been removed and restamped? That would increase the value of the coin some in this higher grade. The rim dings still hurt it overall though.

Only one variety of half cent for the year (compared to 45 varieties of cents!). I think the coin grades in the EF range by EAC standards. Penny Prices puts its value at around 100 to 135 dollars, but less than $200 for an AU50 specimen. I think the distractions mentioned place the value appropriately at around $100.
