1964-P Kennedy original rolls

8 posts in this topic

I saw a roll of Kennedy halves. It is a shotgun roll and the obverse shows at one end. It is 1964-P. The reverse shows st the other end.

The printing on the roll says this in all caps. Pittsburgh Branch Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland $10 Halves $10

Smal print: Johnson Fare Box Co., Chicago 40

Is this an original roll? How am I to know if all 1964-P halves are inside? I'm wondering if this could of been wrapped in 1965 or so and just by chance a 1964-P happened to be on the end.

Anybody have any experience with these?

I've purchased several rolls over the years, without any problems. (But that doesn't really mean much - as there are many different sellers out there.) Check his feedback. They don't usually just have/sell these types of things one time.

Someone in the family has it. We're just wondering if these were rolled in 1964 and if in fact all the halves are 1964. If the one end didn't have the obverse showing, we wouldn't know if it was 1964, 1965, etc. Or would we?

In that case - there is only ONE way to find out - but then again, they won't be in the original roll when it's time to sell them?? I have never been able to "resist" any of the "unopened original" packages that I have bought, so now I have only the original coins!

I haven't sold any of them, but since they are silver, I am sure they are still worth quite a bit more now than when I bought them. I personally won't pay much of a premium over bullion for Kennedy's, original roll or not.

I think the weight of the 90% vs. 40% coins differs, and in a roll, the weight difference would be pronounced. I'd get a known roll of 90% coins and compare on an accurate digital scale.

Of course, you'll have to buy them first ... flowerred.gif

I found 2 rolls on eBay just like this roll but from the Kansas City Federal Reserve.

Has anyone ever openned one of these rolls and found something other than 64 Kennedys? Like some circulated Franklins? Reverse showing at both ends and finding some clads?

I'm not talking about anyone tampering with them, I'm curious about while they were being wrapped. Well, the only reason I wouldn't open up this roll would be if one end was a Kennedy obverse and the other a BU Franklin reverse.

I've probably opened up 20 to 30 rolls over the years, and have never found anything other than 1964s in them. These rolls must have been kept by the tens of thousands. I get offered them all the time at shows.
