slabs for proof sets

5 posts in this topic

I have posted this topic on the NCG board within this site, but it hasn't been posted yet.

I have silver proof sets from '93, '97, and '99 thru 2005 and am concerned with the possible damage to the coins due to the US Mint holders and the PVC I have read about.

Can someone tell me some options for storage containers and also how I could purchase the proper type of storage conatiners from NGC?

Thank you.

Now I am really confused.

Why do some folks say that the US Mint sets will be "poisoned" because of their holders?

I will email the Mint to see if they have anything to say.

Larry, thanks for your info. I am ordering their catalog to take a look.

I'm not an expert but I believe the issue with mint / proof sets was originally on some of the older types from the 50's. Modern packaging is stable but not air tight. To avoid toning caused by simple oxidation you need to keep the sets in an air tight environment.
