Peace Dollar

4 posts in this topic

I have a 1923 Liberty Peace Dollar Proof. I'm not sure what mintmark it is and when I try to look at it with a magnifying glass, there seems to be no mintmark. I believe it is a "P" mintmark because a Pennsylvania mint will not show on coins. My question is, how do I know what exact mintmark it is? Should I go to a coin dealer? Please post back. Thanks.

The mint mark on that coin would be on the reverse below "ONE" on the reverse.

If there is no mint mark that means it was manufactured in Philadelphia.

If you are able, post a picture of the reverse and someone here will gladly verify for you. Welcome to the board!

If you have a 1923 Peace Dollar then it is not a proof... Only in 1921 and 1922 did they issue proofs.. Matte Finish... I could be proof like which is rare, but more than likely it is Mint State or MS.. post a pic and we can help you out. Welcome...

If there is no mintmark next to the tail on the reverse then the coin is a P mint. It also is not a proof, it is a business strike. If you can post images we may be able to tell you if it has been cleaned, polished or is original.
