Error Coin Question ?

25 posts in this topic

Hi,

I am Teresa and I am new around here, so I have a general question for anyone who can answer it...

I just certified a proof error quarter and have no idea of it's possible value...

It's a 1979 S, 25c Reverse Struck in rim burr @ 11:00 - Mint Error PF69 Ultra Cameo

What should I do with this thing???

Thanks in advance,

Welcome to the boards Teresa ,hope you stick around. hi.gif

If you are looking to sell it I would recomend putting it on eBay with a good title and description.

Cheers!

Hayden

Hi Teresa.

Errors in proofs are more collectible than other errors because of the stringent quality controls at the Mint. Nevertheless, occasional errors do come out.

An error coin collector might be willing to pay up to $20 for that coin.

I really don't know, but I would think a PR69 UC would sell for more than $20 without the error.

I am interested in the value of this piece too. In 2003 I received a proof set from the mint with a struck in rim burr on the Sac. I asked around a bit and got little information. One person told me he had sold an SBA with the same error for about $100 on ebay. I don't think his was slabbed and I don't think it was a proof either.

I know that's not much help but it's the only data point I have. I still have mine so I don't know what it would sell for. Mine is still in the proof set.

You're probably right RGT. It's a nice error - Is that the copper core showing through, or are these coin silver?

Still, $100 seems a bit steep.

You're probably right RGT. It's a nice error - I like the fact that the copper core is showing and that it's in a NGC holder, which will minimize the chance of toning.

Still, $100 seems a bit steep.

You never can tell with errors though, they are sometimes like toners in the sense that beauty and value is often in the eye of the beholder...

Gee, you'd have 10K posts now if you weren't so schizo. crazy.gif

Sorry Teresa for taking your thread off course but Jazzy has a long history here.

I think that what you should do if you want to sell is put this same image up and sell it on ebay and let them set the market.

Honest to God I'm not a shill.

I gave my honest opinion on the OP's question, and you guys started in on the alias BS. I remember PMM from ebay some years ago. I have NO alt ID's.

You only think I do because Thingy said so.

Should we believe you though? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

You do after all consider yourself to be "the official NGC troll". Now to keep this on topic, has anyone else seen an error like this sell before?

Hi TeresaLynn and Welcome Aboard!

It's hard to narrow down a value for your coin. With the "spiked" head proof coins and other error types -- values have widely fluctuated. Normally I would say your error would not carry too much of a premium above its already assigned graded numismatic value. However -- what one person doesn't care much for is another person's I got to have it! Sorry -- wish I could be more precise.
