Interesting NEWP From Long beach w/ Problem ... 1891-CC PCGS MS65PL

6 posts in this topic

I watched this coin during the Long Beach auction and it didn't make the reserve. Afterward, I put in a lowball bid via Heritage's "make an offer" button and they emailed me this evening to let me know that my offer was accepted. It looks very high end for a 65PL and is in an OGH, but has a slight grease spot that looks like a clothes pin on liberty's nose. I presume the grease spot is why they had trouble moving it, but it doesn't really bother me if the rest of the coin is PQ+++ What do you guys think about purchasing a coin with a minor imperfection if the rest of it is outstanding??? Also, do you think NCS can do anything for it?

If the price is right, it's a great way to pick up some reasonably nice coins.

You'll have to see in person if the spot on Lib's nose is on the surface or somehow deeper. Looks like it may follow the crack of a planchet imperfection (attended by some reeding marks), but it's impossible to tell without the coin in-hand.

Let us know how you like it when you receive it!
