My Only US Coin Purchased at Long Beach

14 posts in this topic

Same coin imaged under different conditions. The first picture shows the luster and the second picture shows the amount of color.

The coin exhibits greens, blues, reds, oranges, and other colors on both sides.

Actually, this isn't a very good picture of the coin (shame on you Marguli 893naughty-thumb.gif ). The picture on the left is probably closest but it needs to have some "blue" adjustment to it (ie White Balance)...it was probably taken with an incandecent lamp.

I saw the coin Saturday and it's a nice one...much better than the photo. Greg got it at a decent price too considering some of the idiotic money paid for toned Commems these days.

BTW, here is the only US coin I bought at the LB show:

Terrific coin, Greg. thumbsup2.gif One of my favorite designs from my favorite year and Mint of issue for the set, to boot! Fabulous.

I was surprised at the price for it. Usually when I'm quoted a price for toned commems it takes all my strength not to break out laughing, but this was a very fair price. I got it from Wayne Herndon. For those that haven't had the pleasure of meeting Wayne, he's always one of the most friendly dealers on the floor and usually has wonderful coins in his case.

I'll second that about Wayne. thumbsup2.gif

Wayne is a very good guy. I saw him patiently explaining to a newbie how coins were graded and how they were priced, even though it was obvious that he wouldn't be making a sale to the individual.

Greg, I take it you bought that beautiful coin after I saw you & James?

Jom, although it was difficult to do, I bought as many coins at Long Beach as you did.
