What do ya think of this 85 Morgan A.T. OR NATURAL

16 posts in this topic

Im no expert but the obverse looks like that toned occurred in a canvas bag...there are striations in the crust similar to the cords in canvas. If its AT it has me tricked. (but like I said, im no expert)

Is it the lighting giving a weird reflection, or was that obverse cleaned?

It looks buffed a bit by the date - could just be reflection from flash.

In my opinion that coin definitely does not have textile or canvas bag toning.

The images are really bright and make it impossible to see the colors on the coin with accuracy, in my opinion. To tell you the truth, it looks like a dip gone bad. Next time you may want to put somewhat smaller images in the thread as they are easier on the eyes.

I have never seen toning like that on an NT Morgan therefore by default I am going to say AT.

I really don't think it matters either way becuase the toning actually henders the appearance of the coin and would actually take away from the value in my opinion so AT or NT is irrelevant confused-smiley-013.gif

There you go….Grading and Attribution all for one money. cool.gif

From where I'm setting, I think your images are in the ball park, they need some resizing, maybe a little less light, and a different color background. The super large images are good for attribution and a smaller image would be best for grading. thumbsup2.gif

I'm not trying to offend the owner of the coin but that would be my first response also. Who cares of it's AT if it's ugly? Does it matter? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

Having said that it does seem like the typical textile toning from a bag or whatever....

I dipped it, lack luster fraud coin, yuk! Don't have a clue what was on this but NGC bagged it as art toned, anyway got a good clean 1885 no luster coin now Vam 1c I think!

VAM 1A - Die is pitted below left wreath around "ONE D". I don't think there is a 1C.
