My favorite copper from the Jules Reiver sale (liberated, of course....)

It looks like Jules Reiver paid $20.00 in 1968. blush.gif What a phenomenal coin! James, I'm really enjoying all the pictures that you're posting of your purchases out of the Reiver Collection. I'm not responding to each thread because I'm . . . speechless. I can honestly say that this is the first time I've felt a strong urge to stop outside the focus of my collection. STOP IT!

Michael, you don't want this coin. It's value clearly comes from the slab, and James has foolishly cracked it out. wink.gif

Hi Michael! It's already found a good, permanent home.

I paid $267 + S&H, which to me is a fantastic bargain, considering the grade, quality, doubled profile, and the very cool original little box it spent much of its life in.

Ain't coin collecting just the greatest? smile.gif

James: Great coin and congratulations! thumbsup2.gif

Geeze -- I learned something today. I had this 1833 cent that had a strongly doubled profile in my personal collection for over 15 years now. Never did anything with it. Now I finally know what it is. I can't tell in your scan -- but my coin has a die crack beginning from the "C" of AMERICA that runs thru the bottom portions of the letter "A" continuing west over the stem. Does your coin exhibit that die crack?

Bill, my coin does not have that die crack. I'm sure yours must be a different Newcomb variety. Post an image, and maybe we can get it attributed!

Hi James: I could scan the coin but it probably wouldn't be very good for trying to attribute it. I plan to shoot some photos on it, especially the die crack and other die markers and I can post the photos when I get them done.

Or -- I can mail you the coin if you want to examine it? I got it out of a dealer's junk box and it's cruddy coin but if you want to examine it -- just let me know.

Thanks ....
