1933 Double Eagle

5 posts in this topic

Here is another great item I just came across and thought I would share. The cover says it all and a new book is coming out on the 1933 double eagle soon. Sounds like a must read book. I was paging through the catalogue and can you imagine being at this sale and seeing Lot #185 in person!

It is a great read and very well written. I had a tough time putting down as I wanted to see where the story went next.

A good friend of mine has an old book that is, I believe, the memoirs of that event from a famous old-time dealer. I don't recall the dealer's name right now, but I remember thinking how interesting it was reading about that event from the eyes of one of our hobby's notables.

The book you're describing is "Abe Kosoff Remembers." It is a reprinted collection of his long-running Coin World column by the same name.

The book is an amateurish effort, the publisher simply cutting up old CW columns and pasting them on a layout board and photocopying them. Still, the reading material is interesting.

It was published by Sanford Durst in 1981 and has been out of print for many years, but you may be able to find secondhand copies from dealers in numismatic literature.
